On May 8, the independent European E-cigarette Alliance (IEVA) issued a statement on its official website urging Spain not to ban flavoured e-cigarettes. It is understood that the Spanish Ministry of Health intends to propose a ban on flavors of e-cigarette products in the Real Decreto 579 / 2017 bill regulating the manufacturing and marketing of tobacco and e-tobacco products.
The Independent European E-Cigarette Alliance believes that banning the flavors of e-cigarette products carries multiple risks: the ban on e-liquid flavors in the Spanish market will lead to the popularity of dangerous, non-compliant products on the black market;
Taste ban will lead to an increase in cigarette smoking;
The taste ban will put more than 3,000 jobs in Spain’s e-cigarette industry at risk of unemployment and reduce government revenue due to reduced tax revenues.
Overall, the Independent European E-Cigarette Alliance called on the Spanish Ministry of Health to be cautious about implementing a ban on the flavors of e-cigarette products.
