The smoking cessation benefits of vape have been confirmed once again. A research paper published in the authoritative medical journal New England Journal of Medicine pointed out that vape can help smokers quit smoking, and the smoking cessation effect and smoking cessation experience are better than nicotine replacement therapy (such as nicotine patches). Smoking cessation with e-cigarettes is nearly twice as successful as nicotine replacement therapy.

The prestigious journal The Lancet Public Health recently published similar findings. Data show that in the 18-month study, the smoking cessation success rate of the e-cigarette group was generally 5% to 10% higher than that of the control group (no smoking cessation aids).
The study, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIHR), surveyed nearly 1,000 British smokers. According to the “smoking cessation success” standard of not using cigarettes for a year, the data show that users who quit smoking with e-cigarettes have a success rate of 18%, while smokers who use nicotine patches, nicotine gum and other nicotine replacement therapies have a success rate of only 9.9%.

Why is vape smoking so good? The researchers said that, first, electronic cigarettes as a cigarette substitute, not only can meet the nicotine needs of smokers, but also can imitate cigarettes in the use of action and experience, and more comprehensively alleviate the withdrawal symptoms of smokers; Second, e-cigarette brand, taste, nicotine content is different, smokers choose space, the use of satisfaction will also be improved.
In addition, switching to vape will also improve the physical condition of smokers. Studies have shown that smokers have reduced symptoms of respiratory infections after switching to vape.
Study leader Peter Hajek, director of the Tobacco Dependence Research Group at Queen Mary University in London, has been conducting research on smoking cessation for years. As early as 2014, he conducted experiments on nicotine-containing vape and concluded that if nicotine is not accompanied by other toxic substances when ingested, its health effects are not much different from those of coffee.
“We have seen that as the popularity of vape has increased, so has the success rate of smokers quitting. Those who cannot find an effective way to quit smoking are benefiting from e-cigarettes.”Peter Hajek said.
According to the British Smoking Cessation Service, between 2019 and 2020, the success rate of people who used e-cigarettes to quit smoking at local smoking cessation services was as high as 74%, and vape have become the most popular way to quit smoking. Hospitals in some cities, such as London and Edinburgh, have decided that no matter what the patient goes to the hospital for emergency treatment, the hospital will issue free e-cigarette kits to smokers to help more people quit smoking.
