* Smoking is harmful to health, minors are prohibited from using vape, non-smokers are not recommended to use vape*
Recently, Italy, the United States and other countries medical team jointly published a paper pointed out that e-cigarettes on the cardiovascular damage is far less than cigarettes, cigarettes will increase the risk of smokers suffering from coronary heart disease, cerebral infarction, stroke and other critical diseases, e-cigarettes almost will not affect cardiovascular health.

According to the World Heart Federation (WHF), 550 million people worldwide suffer from cardiovascular disease and 20.5 million people die each year from heart disease and stroke. The study, led by the Centre of Excellence for Accelerated Tobacco Harm Reduction (CoEHAR) at the University of Catania, Italy, examined the effects of cigarettes and e-cigarettes on vascular endothelial wound healing, a key indicator of vascular health. The lower the healing force, the more likely the wound to cause atherosclerosis, and then induce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, life-threatening.
The results showed that cigarette significantly reduced the healing power of vascular endothelial wound. The concentration of cigarette smoke is only 12.5%, can inhibit wound healing, and the higher the concentration, the greater the adverse effects. In contrast, no matter whether the concentration of e-cigarette mist is high or low, even if the concentration is 100%, there is no significant effect on wound healing.
“This shows that harmful substances that damage cardiovascular health must be in cigarettes and not in e-cigarettes. Even if it is found in e-cigarettes, the levels are too low to cause harm.” The authors wrote in their paper.
The researchers first ruled out nicotine found in both cigarettes and e-cigarettes. Nicotine does not cause cancer and has never appeared on the list of carcinogens published by the World Health Organization. The authors also emphasize in the paper that there is evidence that nicotine does not induce atherosclerosis.
The harmful substances in cigarettes are basically produced when the tobacco is burned. Research shows that tobacco burning produces more than 4,000 chemical substances, including tar, nitrosamines and other 69 cancer-causing substances, as well as a large number of oxidizing substances (can cause DNA damage and cell necrosis). The researchers analyzed that a lot of oxidants could be the “culprit” for damaging the cardiovascular system. E-cigarettes do not contain a tobacco burning process, so they do not produce large amounts of oxidizing substances.
Not only that, smokers switching to e-cigarettes can also play a harm reduction role. Studies have shown that after smokers switch to e-cigarettes for 1 month, vascular endothelial function has been effectively improved. “The cardiovascular risks of cigarettes are obvious, and helping smokers quit has become a top priority.”
The World Health Organization website describes smoking cessation as “Quitting tobacco,” that is, quitting tobacco. A number of authoritative studies around the world have confirmed that e-cigarettes can significantly improve the success rate of smokers quitting tobacco, and the effect of smoking cessation is better than nicotine replacement therapy. “It is very commendable that e-cigarettes support smokers to keep trying to quit.” Riccardo Polosa, founder of the Centre of Excellence for Accelerating Tobacco Harm Reduction (CoEHAR) at the University of Catania, Italy.
In a recent speech, Riccardo Polosa pointed out that the promotion of e-cigarettes in public health institutions will help reduce smoking rates (number of cigarette users / total population * 100%). Improving the Public Health Environment:“Even the most reluctant diehards in the tobacco control agency have to admit that e-cigarettes are effective harm reduction products. If harm reduction strategies can be adopted to allow smokers to switch to e-cigarettes, the risk of disease will be greatly reduced.”
